Do Tournament Directors make too much money?

I am still cajoling over how to do this. Let me make my list of expenses (categories and $$) and see if I feel good about "opening the books". As both Riles and Munitz have commented, the ABT events are different in their locations, director expectations, and expenses verus profit results. Some have sponsors, both large and small. Some have donated staff time, paid staff-time, etc.
I doubt that having all (or most) of the director's publish their "books" is likely nor appropriate; businesses do NOT publish their books except to their stockholders and the IRS (we do not have stockholders and yes, we do file tax returns that do include backgammon reporting).
Backgammon tournaments are not a vocation (making a living) but rather an avocation (enjoyment in the product and NOT losing money). Munitz is right, our hourly rate is way too small, but we love doing what we do. When one of my events is over, I really feel good if it went smoothly, was well attended, and did not lose money. And, of course, if I got positive feedback from the players --and I really do appreciate their "atta-boys" and their constructive criticisms.
