Indy-Swiss is a great format and with 3-full-days available, it works really well with each round Scheduled to start at a particular time. It gives players more control of their down time (eat, take a walk, nap, run an errand, or play a side event).

But it does take 3 days of play to make it work that way and most of us Tournament Directors do not have a holiday weekend available to run it, nor are willing to require a Thur-Fri-Sat-Sun from our players (and their necessary travel time)in order to still hold the side-events (Masters, Doubles, Blitz, Jackpots, MiniMatches) that are required for the tournament to not lose money

I considered changing one of our two ABT events to Indy-Swiss, but with an OPEN field of 55-64 players, there is just not enough time for the 8 Swiss rounds and then the 3-4 rounds of playoffs (and a Consolation bracket).

I do use it for our VIETOR CUP each September in La Jolla, where we have a max of 32 players (typically 26-30). Two really busy days, with pre-schedule match start times and a Consolation for those with 3 losses.

Double_elimintion with Progressive Consolation is popular with the players as long as there is not too much WAIT time between matches (clocks should fix this) and lessening the huge equity of the Undefeated's 75% winning chance by making the finals a ONE MATCH ONLY.
