In Response To: Riles vs. Stick in Vegas -- One of My Best Matches Ever and I Lose (David Rockwell)

This is a topic that is haunting me as well. I am doing what I can to lower my er rate, but seem to have my own hurdles to cross first. I read books and replay my matches to not only see where I went wrong, but to also see where I am going right.

Snowie 4 says I am averaging 6. Some high 4s/5s and some in the 7/8 range, but mostly in the 6 area over 7 to 11pt matches.

What stumps me is when I get to a checker play that I do not understand at all and try to think it through. These usually come from holding games and I have to get them around More times than not I will play it wrong and I am having dinner, not lunch. And Im not talking burger king. Definately a much better place to eat better food. Play a few of these in a match and there goes the er through the roof. Another area I tend to make larger errors is when I am trying to bare my men home from the outfield in a longer race. Snowie dings me to death. I have gotten my checker play into the 4s, but no way is that good enough to compete with you guys that post here.

The majority of my cube mistakes are missed doubles. Lurking this forum is helping me with my cubing.

I find I tend to score a lower er rate when my cube play has a low er rate. The checker play er is usually in the same ballpark.

To you world class guys, at one time you were in my shoes. What did you do to break the barrier I am in and play much better?

In another post in this thread Stick posted he is nore interested in playing his opponent that averaging 2. I agree with the line of thinking, but one cant do that unless he has the capacity to understand the game and know why you make the plays you do. Im no where close to that and have way more to learn. This is why I fall into the fish category. No I take that back. I fall into the guppy category. Fish can still eat me too at times.

Thanks for listening and more so if you follow up.
