I recall Bill Davis ran a poll on the chicagopoint.com site regarding recording. Results were: http://chicagopoint.com/pollresults.html
Should a player be able to videotape his ABT event, even if his opponent objects?
Yes in all cases, 109 votes, 35%
Yes, unless the director determines that the opponent has a valid reason for his objection, 74 votes, 24%
No, the opponent should be able to stop his match from being recorded with no reason given, 125 votes, 41%
Total votes 308.
I believe as a result of this Bill Davis stated that an opponent could stop a match from being recorded at the 2009 Midwest Championships.
Being personally pro-recording myself, and not a believer in the theory that a recording set-up can be an intimidation factor, will clearly state in the flyer for any event that I direct that any player shall have the right to record his match, whether through videotape or the use of a non-player manually recording the match.
It's a damn shame that directors are going to need to start producing multi-page flyers to identify all the special case rules for their tournaments such as clocks and recording.
