Very surprising the difference in pure gammons: 23.5% for the variant.

I was mentally speculating on what might happen at DMP. Here ($-play) the hit wins 2% more games. I'm figuring the difference is even bigger at DMP since Blue never needs to concern him/herself with saving a G (or BG).

Any guesses as the how the win percentages change (from here) at DMP?

Another thing to vary would be the number of Blue checkers remaining. (Never enough time... :(
