Minimize number of trials! I bow to your gambling wisdom. Well put, Jake.

However, if I accept the idea that if I want to make 35 times my original wager in roullette the best way is to bet one time on one number and pray, rather than betting on black or red 100 times... and hoping to be lucky...

That is not the same as in backgammon. Doubling EARLIER than the bot would, to try and achieve better odds. At least I don't think it is.

I can see where one should double at the same moment the bot thinks it is right but to proceed earlier fall over the cutting edge.
