I never heard the (expression) "bad beat story" in backgammon.

You mean literally? I've only heard a million of 'em. BTW, watching the PPT on Travel Channel last night, one of the announcers (might have been Mark Seif -- he's the expert commentator for those broadcasts) said (paraphrased) "I'm sick of all this luck; I'm going to learn backgammon."

Backgammon experience is good training for poker IMIO ("in my ignorant opinion").

BTW, did anyone mention watching poker on TV as a learning tool?
