I like new ideas, and Phil has more than his share. When reading his proposal this apparent (gambling) inconsistency flashed to me as quickly and clearly as it did to you, Chris.

I didn't think of the overhead on directors/bookmakers, though. However, it might be something that a spreadsheet (if, properly written, of course) could handle easily. The money exchange (and preference info) would still require a human. This might be similar to the effort currently put into the Calcutta auction by the staff (making the teams, typing up the sheet, keeping track of bidders, taking in their $, etc.)

Finally, I note that MC this year (just told to me by Howard Sunday night) had neither a Calcutta nor a book.
