Controversy in the Chou

In Response To: Controversy in the Chou (Chuck Bower)

'Something related occurred in Madison when I tapped "en passant" (and maybe moved -- I can't remember to minute detail) Rob Maier's blot and then in my rush to punch the clock failed to put the checker on the bar. Rob simply put it there for me after his clock started. "

There is a difference. Touching down on the opponent's blot and then not lifting it from the board is (in my opinion) an illegal play. By doing so, you removed the ambiguity of which order you played the two dice, no different than if the play of the other die first had been blocked. Rob was in that case exercising his legal option to allow the illegal play to be corrected. (Though I suppose he was technically supposed to allow you to correct it yourself).

Now if the guy in the Chouette had touched his checker to the blot in passing, and "legal plays" were in effect, I'd say he could claim he had the right to correct the play.
