Controversy in the Chou

Maybe there should be a special rule for money play or Chouette that a player may change his play after lifting his dice, but before the opponent rolls by paying 0.5 times cube value to the opponent(s). Had such a rule been in place prior to this situation, I have to believe that both teams would have been happy with the windfall/penalty.
Sometimes you don't even see the obvious hit, point making play, etc. until a moment after the dice are up. Nobody really wants to win/lose that way, and if the mental error is really bigger than 0.5, this would be a good way to limit the impact.
Or as a simpler alternative, add a special rule for money play that if someone makes a horrible, but legal play and lifts their dice, the play stands with no recourse. Or would that be redundant?
