Controversy in the Chou

In Response To: Controversy in the Chou (Perry Gartner)

In no way did MCG or I condone cheering or comments of any kind, in fact, when someone does cheer before the play is made, or says "nice roll" (as Carter often does and I often chastise him for it) which alerts the player he can hit or make a point or run a checker, I think it is a severe violation of the rules. That others violated this rule, as David points out, should not penalize us further...it is just another reason why the play should have stood with the checker not on the bar.

As for having someone outside the chou make rulings, that is totally impractical. And as for ruling on "unresolved" problems, it is extremely rare that anything comes up that is not covered in either our written rules, the basic rules of the game adopted by the ABT (which we agree to abide by), or by precedent.
