This is asinine

The reason given to reverse the stupid illegal play is that the player's partners distracted him. Imagine a doubles match in an ABT event where a player calls the director to ask for remedy because his doubles partner distracted him. Or imagine a player asking for a remedy because a kibitizer, perhaps the player's own wife, disctracted him. This is about as stupid as the player making a joke and then asking for a remedy because he distracted himself by telling a joke. The distraction argument does not make any sense at all unless you can claim that someone from the other side caused the distraction. That wasn't the case here. The player was hurt by his own partners' inappropriate actions. They should suffer the consequences of their choice.
If Phil or MCG want to give away their money to keep the fish in the game (which is what this is really all about), that's their business. But, it is outrageous to say that there is any requirement for them to bend the rules.
