Controversy in the Chou

Phil, we agree (I thought that would be obvious from my second rule suggestion to add a rule that we should follow the rules).
You know we agree that rules should be codified, clarified, ambiguities removed and then followed.
But my not particularly serious first suggested rule is in fact not a statement that the rules should be bent and ignored when convenient. Quite the opposite. It was that if enough people feel that "late corrections" should sometimes be permitted under certain circumstances, or that people should not have to pay full price for their mistakes if they are blatant enough, then codify as a rule when it should apply and how it should be handled, and what are the penalties. Or clarify that "really horrible but legal plays that you did not actually intend to make" stand no matter what; too bad.
In my opinion, any situation that arises and requires a ruling should be discussed at another calmer time, gain consensus on how it should work or how existing rules should be interpreted, and add to the rules, guidelines, etc.
