Do you mean if Phil would have put the checker on the bar and admonished the captain, you would have been willing to pay as if it were put on the bar by the captain himself?

Yes. Phil was the box & I was his partner, not the other way around. I can't imagine any variation of the universe where the situation would have played out the way it did if I were the box and Phil was my partner. But regardless I would have gone along with whatever he thought was a fair resolution.

Were you offended by the team's protest and otherwise would have given some slack? Sorry if missed your point.

My point is that we didn't really reach a resolution by way of some objective standard (e.g., appeal to the rules, appeal to a director, etc.), but more by whoever cried the loudest. That just isn't how I feel disputes ought to be handled. All the more so because the rules clearly indicate that the captain was wrong here. But if Phil thought it was appropriate to cut the team slack here and let the hit stand, I would have understood.
