My guess is that most people who are afraid to post here will also be afraid to post to any other forum you set up.

In my opinion, the best thing you can do to encourage other non-experts to post is to post yourself. You may have noticed that I have tried to do my part by posting my own clueless analyses from time to time. :-)

Having said that, I would tentatively suggest rec.games.backgammon as an alternative forum. It's pretty quiet nowadays but I occasionally post positions there that I think might be too "elementary" for bgonline and usually a couple of people will respond. There is perhaps a little more "noise" in rec.games.backgammon than here but it's not too bad.
