Does the video typically record the players' faces?

Not that I've ever seen. When people record their own matches, the camera is mounted on a tripod which is on the table, pointed down at the board, scorecard, and clock.

I haven't watched too many of the European matches recorded for TV. Maybe there occasionally is footage showing the players' faces, etc. But those are obviously special cases, presumably done so for the telecasting value.
