Onetime shuffle rule

I also agree with Rich and Steve, I don't think its broken and requires fixing. Of course I am an advanced level player not quite ready to play "touch-move."
The central point in all these discussions are the wish that plays be made legally and retractions be returned to the correct position. I believe that these are strong points in favor of recording of matches. After all, I believe that Rich was involved in a late-round match at the World Championships where two obviously highly-skilled players and a referee were unable to correctly return to the original position in a bear-off.
I've moved into the camp of requiring "legal moves" in my games. I don't believe I would be as proud of a trophy that I had won as a result of my condoning an opponents illegal moves. We are playing backgammon, a game with established rules, and not some variant.
