...wasn't the impropriety the aborted roll?

Yes, that's what I meant -- just didn't say it as clearly as you.

That wasn't the rule in effect. The rule in effect was that premature rolls stand. Does that matter to your ruling?

I'm still unsure of the details. If the fast roller realized mid-roll that it wasn't his turn and then aborted the roll, how could s/he justify another fast roll in the same turn? If he waited to roll the 6-6 until after his turn was over AND assuming his opp had a couple seconds to realize the aborted roll was fast, then I think the initial (and only, on this turn) fast roll was implicitly pardoned by his opp, so the 6-6 is then valid.

Regardless of which rule (premature roll stands, regardless, or US Rule 4.6), if non-fast roller's dice are still down, IMO, the 6-6 is invalid. The gray area is when everything happened so fast that it's hard to say when (during fast-rollers multiple rolls) his opponent picked up his dice. In that case I give the benefit of the doubt to the non-fast roller and treat the situation as though his dice were down during the 6-6 roll, invalidating the 6-6 roll.

Frankly I'm not sure who I agree with (if anyone). Rich's long standing argument (from my interpretation of what he has written previously) that a player may not forfeit his turn is something I agree with. Thus I don't feel (as some do) that picking up your dice without playing anything when in fact there are legal moves available falls under "illegal moves".

If director chooses to accept/force the fast-roller's forfeiture of the roll, I believe US Rule 1.1 allows that. That just wouldn't be my action if I were director.
