It was good that this was solved "amicably" but often that won't be the case. The fact that the ace you threw (during the abnormality) was the perfect second die for his eventual 3 is very unfortunate and such anomalies add further complications in these kinds of rulings.

Best would have been for you two to agree what the procedure should be BEFORE making the corrective action (in this case before he rerolled) but unfortunately that didn't happen either.

Another tough judgment call, IMO, which the director on hand will have to sort out, after collecting as much evidence as possible. If s/he is comfortable that no one was taking a shot, then I think leaving your ace on the table would be the proper ruling. In either case s/he knows to keep an eye open for a recurrence.
