GNU clearly favors blasting away with the double hit. The blot at the rear of White's prime is a crucial factor. Lift the blot and GNU radically reverses its preference, at least on 4-ply evaluation.
This position is actually a variant of a position that came up over the board. In the real position, the blot was not there. I considered the double hit for a long time but eventually settled (correctly, it seems) on 13/5. I came up with this variant while trying to figure out what changes might have made the double hit correct.
