Would it be possible for late entries to simply not be part of the Calcutta pool or payout, similar to the way sidepool non-entrants are currently handled? Maybe the same should go for other players not officially registered by the time of the auction.

Still I wonder if David's proposal would actually lead to his desired result. There are players who simply don't want to start Saturday before ~noon and who use the calcutta time for sleep, eat breakfast, etc. And having the Calcutta on Friday evening likely would push Friday evening matches even later.

I think the current system may be the best compromise. Those who like Calcuttas show up and participate; those who don't enjoy other activities of their choosing during that time.
