There seem to be some assumptions here which may not be founded in fact:

1) better players are faster players;

2) worse players are slower players;

3) more time allowed means a better play will be found;

4) forfeits occur at the rate of x/match;

5) forfeits occur because players are aware of their time limits but still run out of time trying to think;

6) there exists one time setting which fits all.

We are still in the infancy of clock usage, particularly clocks with Bronstein settings. Adjustment to clocks, for individuals as well as tournaments, is not going to be instantaneous. The comfort level of clocks, IMO, is much more correlated with familiarity than skill level, or even native speed. I believe I'm a good example of this, and if anyone wants to dig back into FABN issues where my slow play was chronicled, I invite you to do that.

You raised some good points, but the best person to answer those questions is actually you. Get a digital clock and start playing on it. The answers will come.
