Well, yes, doubling the first position is evidence that you're the weaker of the two players.

I could imagine not doubling the second position if the stakes were too high.

Actually, in a money game (or especially a chouette), there are lots of subtle issues of client management. But most of them don't apply if you think you're the weaker player.
