I don't recall that. Douglas Zare has an interesting article on Gammonvillage about low vs. medium and high wastage positions. If I recall correctly, one of the conclusions was that the interpolation is non-linear in the sense that it matters a lot if a position is efficient or mildly inefficient (as for example a closed board without spares), but not so much if it is mildly inefficient or very inefficient. That may be applicable to the Neil's position.

that would suggest a 2 - 0.5 = 1.5 pips money take

Per Trice's formula, 2 pips would already be a close money drop.
