I'm not the right person to answer this question. I have seen people (e.g. MCG) enter live matches into XG quickly enough to pull off this live feed concept, and I do know that XG is very fast at (near) real time analysis.
The apparent downside that you allude to is that (the current version of) XG doesn't run without a (costly for some) Windows license. Thus fewer members of "the masses" would have access to the live transcription than if a similar practice with the more widely accessible GNU-bg were feasible.
There could be further mutually beneficial reasons for the USBGF to enter a cooperative agreement with XG, but again it would be better if someone in the USBGF who is more involved with this type of relationship would answer that.
