I hope we are addressing your second point too.

There's no question that this feature will be much improved with the continuation of Swiss compared to going to a conventional (knockout elimination) bracket.

I also feel that you are doing your best to explain the format ahead of time, even though there is some improvisation still, and that is where I said "maybe inevitable".

Lest anyone think I don't like Indy Swiss, I think it is the second best format available today, superseded by the new Wiscky Swiss. Of course it still takes a three day weekend to be able to pull it off (assuming reasonable size fields) so that limits its application. Double Elimination plus Consolation at Michigan (another 3 day weekend) works fine, too. Thankfully there is room for variety in US backgammon.
