More importantly what you also can't tell from the pix is that the car is started to fade/rust. I don't like the word 'rust' because it's not rusting, but I don't know what it's called. It's worse on the roof than the hood or the trunk, but you can still see it creeping in and it has only been 5 years. I don't know how fast this will progress and whether I care or not or what it's worth towards the value of the car. That's my biggest hitch in whether or not to buy it.

My wife's cousin has a 2005 Dodge Stratus that she bought new. It's black -- probably the most vulnerable for this kind of problem. The paint is disappearing from the roof, not pealing off but it seems like a kind of sublimation. The dashboard (vinyl covered foam) is warping and peeling away from the vent that allows defrost air to reach the windshield. (A quick web search confirms this isn't an isolated incident.) She went to the dealer and he treated her like she had leprosy.

If these cars were known for their mechanical integrity and you were going to drive it until it's ready for the junkyard (there's another question -- longevity) then you could just say "who cares what the finish looks like?"

I think you can do better.
