My One Suggestion For Madison

Back in 1981 I attended the "US Open" in Reno, a tournament run by Les and Sue Boyd. I was living in Denver at the time (where even then local BG tournament play was spotty). Most of the players were from the West Coast and I knew no one. Very early in the weekend this question came up (I think I asked it) while a few people were standing around making small talk. One guy (no idea who he was; I've never seen him since) blabbered something about there being a different kind of matchplay (he mentioned details but those also slip my memory) for which the end occurred at an even number of matchpoints, so odd was used for our form of matchplay to distinguish. Unsatisfied with that explanation I continued "but I wonder why this is the convention" and he screamed at me authoritatively I just told you!
As I've said many times, the asshole factor of backgammon fortunately dropped considerably between then and now.
