Simborg's Duplicate Backgammon

You play the "right" move. In the duplicate backgammon competitions I have run, I have a game already rolled out so that I know, in advance, what the right play is. To make it more challenging, it is a game I made up, and the rolls I select for each play are rolls that make it very difficult.
At the last tournament I ran this, I called it "the game from hell"...every play was a very, very tough play, and even the best players in the room (some of the best in the world) missed several plays.
Now, the truth is, playing duplicate backgammon, or a "game from hell" is really no different from a quiz. It really doesn't matter that every play is a sequence from a game, as every move and decision stands on it's own.
So in effect, this is no different from The Howard Ring Memorial Quiz given in LA (won by O'Hagan by the way).
Bottom line, this is a real, true test of backgammon skill, but as many argue, it doesn't necessarily mean that the winner is the best player in a match, over the board, as there are certainly different skills required and different pressures when trying to play against a human.
Having said that, however, I still believe that either duplicate backgammon or tests are the truest test and measure we currently have of absolute backgammon knowledge and skill.
For those of you interested, I have 3 "games from hell" that I have produced, and eventually I will post them on our web site so that everyone can try their luck at them.
