Segways are dangerous for me!

After the U.S. Open in 2009 I stayed in Washington to do some site seeing, since I had never been there before. One of the most fun things I did was go an a twilight Segway tour of the capital buildings. A mild rain started just before the tour and the sidewalks were completely empty. I went with a group of about 10 people, most of whom had never been on a Segway before. It was a blast.

I decided to buy a couple for my family when I returned home.

The Segway I rode in Washington was governed to not exceed 10 MPH. Normally, Segways will go 12.5 MPH. After getting mine, I rode it all around my neighborhood, going to restaurants, the grocery store, etc. It was fun, cheap, and convenient. One of my dogs even liked to ride it with me. Pretty soon I developed a desire to go even faster than it's limit. I read on the internet about people that had modified their Segways to go faster, which the company does not advocate. While I never did this, I would have had it been easy to do.

Over the next few months I had at least four accidents on my Segway, the results of which left me with cuts, scrapes, a herniated disk, and a mild concussion. After the concussion/herniated disk, I quit riding it. The accidents were due in part to my daredevil attitude while riding it-going too fast on uneven surfaces and turning to sharply-and part due to the poor condition of California sidewalks due to earthquakes, mainly, and tree roots.

Segwways are fun to ride, but dangerous for me.

BTW, I have a lightly used Segway fro sale.
