I seem to recall a criminal prosecution in hockey, about 30+ years ago. A friend of mine wrote a law review note about the issue, which I can try to dig up if anyone's interested. I think criminal prosecutions for actions taken in a sporting contest are rare, mostly because even penalty provoking attacks are deemed to be "part of the game". Establishing the requisite criminal intent is difficult. Maybe if Michael Vick had hung some opposing lineman on the goal posts ....
