This month's Chicago Point - Legal Moves Rule

Bill asked me in a personal email why I liked legal moves without letting me know he was an planning article on the subject. I am not sure that is good journalism. I am happy with my answers, but not happy that I was not notified until I received the Point in the mail.
I find the article to possess weak analogies and untruths.
Like Stick, I especially find fault with the statement; "Most legal eagles will only play legal moves with individuals they trust". Most? Did he do a survey. Is this just a lie? I will play legal move with anyone that wishes to and I would think most members of the Legal Moves Club would as well.
As a matter of fact, at the recent Sante Fe tournament, I played Larry Taylor a match. In the middle part of the match he made an illegal play when he rolled a 6-5 from the bar and played a 6-4. The 6-5 was a joker and would hit a man on my 11 point. I said to him; 'Larry, I don't know if you are a member of the Legal Moves Club, but you just rolled 6-5 and played 6-4.' He replied; 'I guess I am now'. Later in the match, I misread the dice and he corrected me in a situation that was even more to his detriment than my correction of his illegal move had been to me. I think we both walked away from that match feeling an increased trust and respect for each other that may have not been the case had either of us allowed the illegal moves to stand.
There are several other points in the article that are weak, especially the 'Rehit it legally' statement in an analogy he uses with golf.
I like and respect Bill, he has done much for backgammon and would be one of my first picks for a backgammon Hall of Fame, but I disagree strongly with some of his opinions and methods.
