Starting out in GO (OT)

I highly recommend Go World magazine (to which I have a lifetime membership). I also love Go books. The earliest ones I read were Go for Beginners, In the Beginning, 38 Basic Joseki, Tesuji, Attack and Defense, Life and Death and The Endgame. Then, to move past the kyu level, Basic Techniques of Go and Breakthrough to Shodan were helpful. There are many other books I can suggest when you get to the point that you know what areas of your game you'd most like to improve.
Being somewhat old-fashioned, I haven't looked into online resources, except that IGS (Internet Go Server) has many pro games you can watch, and all levels of players you can play against (for free), and you can often get great advice in the kibitz windows to almost any Go-related question you want to ask.
Hope that helps.
