Starting out in GO (OT)

The software has value for some things, not others. For example, in positions requiring analysis such as life and death or possibly finding a tesuji, it can be helpful. It is low value in helping with problems of judgement. In particular, when I want to know what part of the board most requires attention, it isn't very helpful. It may be helpful at learning joseki, but I have never tried this myself.
If you are serious about Go, get the software, but emphasize the things that Nack is suggesting. Of course, anyone 5 kyu or better should probably skip the software altogether.
Long ago, I paid to get games analyzed. I think I used an amateur dan player once and a professional another time. The former was worth something and the latter was invaluable.
