Thank you for your reply. I have 1 more question: how do you (or how you used to) analyze your games?

I don't. If I were to do so, I would hire a professional to analyze them.

Since the top comps are only intermediate are they helpful at all to stronger players wishing to find out what they did wrong?

No; not until they get a lot stronger than they are now. The best programs have only recently broken into the very low dan rankings.

What about total beginners? Thanks

Yes, decent software could help, and evidently it is available (see David's post). Whether that would be better for you than playing over articles and games with professional commentary (translated from Asian language) is another question. It is a tradeoff between understanding your own weaknesses but from the point of view of a shodan-if-that strength bot, or getting much higher-quality analysis from a top-notch human but for games that are not your own. Maybe some of each would be optimal, though I am much more comfortable recommending a healthy dose of the latter.

Nack
