Just so that I am not misunderstood, I was not insinuating that you had pilfered the idea, or that it should be attributed to A.B.

I didn't think you were insinuating such, but sometimes I've said things I thought were original and later realized "oh, yeah, THAT's where I got that idea." (And the older I get, the more I need to review. :)

Art is a professional, journal contributing mathematician. It would be very uncharacteristic of him not to have said something like "here's an idea being tossed around" if he heard it somewhere else. But you are right, with 6 billion humans on this planet and with common stimuli (with great help from the internet), it's probably rare to be the only one (or even only one of a handful) to come up with a new idea. I suspect this one (replace calculus with P&S as a terminal math class) has been arrived at by hundreds of people, and some of them before I was even born.

As far as TED, this is the first I've ever seen it, although I had heard of it. I doubt I'd have much to say that would interest a large audience. I can't even get many people here to take my backgammon wisdom seriously.
