Anecdotes from Nordic

Falafel would always have been the most vocal and opinionated of the group, whether he were captain or not.
The fact is, he listened to everyone and did not impose his opinions on the rest of us. We played two other matches with him as captain: a training match in our hotel suite before the tournament, in which we played at a .3 PR (!) and and a match "The World vs. the Public" during the tournament (in which anyone was welcome to consult against us, which attracted a number of strong players including the Norwegians Katja Spillum and Hans Libby) in which we again played at a PR less than 1.0. You can't really complain about that.
It is possible that Stick's published trepidations about Falafel's role in the match put him on notice that, as captain, he would need to make a special effort to repress his ego. If so, the heads-up worked.
