My limited experience has told me that you need to recalibrate your confidence in a computer company every 4 years or so. I remember in the early 90's when Gateway 2000 (later they removed the suffix, for obvious reasons) was absolutely top of the line in component quality and value/cost. They went bad and although have recovered some, they're still a shadow of their former selves. My first home PC was a Dell desktop with a 60 MHz pentium and it was a rock. My first laptop was an Inspiron 2500 and I still have it (running) today. But I've seen several PoS's from Dell over the last 5+ years.

So, I hear you. Also, just like automobiles, I've found it best to wait a while before 'investing' in what today is the latest/greatest/hottest computer (or computer component) going. Let them iron out the bugs and drop the price. Then I'll get interested.
