That's true, Bob - we don't know how to make such a statement, yet. I think I phrased that poorly or didn't flesh out what I meant.

Certainly it seems that athletes are far away from anything which we might ever conceive of as perfect play, not even factoring the moving bar of still improving training approaches and genetics. Backgammon players, on the other hand are clearly maxing out and the bar seems pretty set and stable with bots having little or nothing to improve upon.
