Laptop problem

Note that this is a laptop. The keyboard and mouse are built in. Have tried disconnecting everything (including AC) and turning off everything in the BIOS (card reader, esata, USB, etc) with no effect. I don't have a USB keyboard right now but the USB mouse doesn't seem to be working either.
My first thought was a driver problem; however, if it were a driver problem, ubuntu or the ubuntu live cd should be able to do something. My second thought was something was physically wrong; however, since the keyboard works perfectly fine and I can run commands in grub, I ruled that out. I am aware that overheating is probably not good for the box but I can't change voltages in the BIOS.
Is my box wasted? If so, any idea why?
