XG'S numbers are cubeless, and therefore misleading. A position I show to my students is a closed board with two checkers off and 3 checker on the 6 point and 1 of the opponent's checkers on the bar. XG shows that the player with the checker on the bar wins 14%, but we both know that on the next roll you leave shots 12 times, get hit 11 times, and that amounts to about 10%. You certainly will lose 14% if he rolls 5-5 or 6-6 and misses you and you fail to cube, but because you will cube, you will only lose 10 percent when that happens.
