I see 2 reasons why breaking the 7 point is better.

1- An extra builder to point on the 2 point next turn. 2a- Only 55 will clear the blot vs 66 AND 64, 2b- 51 leave a double shot and prob wont even move up vs 61 will move out.

In any score where gammons count at least .5, id be switching and doubling out or in next turn.
