You don't give much time to answer, do you. :-)

I would like to add to your reasoning that you have a pile of semi dead spares on the 6p. They are semi dead as long as the opponent is parked on the 4p. The best place for 1 of those spares to go is the 3p, making the best available point.

So why not make it.

Stopping on the 18 may divert white's attention from making the 5point. Maybe he will have to give up the 9p in order to hit you. So a hit on the 18p may come at a cost for white so it is not so terrible to be hit on the 18p.
