Very good analysis by Casper and John. In practice, I think the largest issue is the skill difference between the players. If Blue is significantly stronger than white, he should wait. If White is the stronger player or they are close in skill, Blue should probably recube because: he is a reasonable favorite in the game; he can not win that many gammons by waiting and will often have to cash later; he can negate White's lead by putting the match on the line now; there is at least some possibility that White could blunder and pass. Blue's 8 cube will kill his gammons, but that is somewhat offset by the fact that it will kill White's too and by his ability, as John points out, to play a fearless ace point game when things go poorly.
