In Response To: Legal Moves - Tournament and Club Survey (Roger Foster)

The Columbus Backgammon Club switched to Legal Moves as of January 2013, and will continue for the foreseeable future. This was driven by an incident during the prior year that I am certain cost us at least one recurring player - absolutely killer when I'm working so hard to increase monthly tournament attendance.

I felt that Legal Moves was the best way to make things more welcoming to casual players who aren't as used to the tournament scene or have spent most of their playing time online, which is Legal Moves by its very nature.

I have also been actively encouraging clocks, which have been very well received even by players who are newer to playing competitively. I haven't made them 100% mandatory yet, but I have given warning that if a match proceeds to long, I will put a clock on the remainder of the match. As it turns out, most of the matches start with clocks at the players' option - which pleases me to no end.
