I believe hit-and-split was the solution (I probably have seen this problem before), but I am not sure it is right, even though it is the DMP play. I would probably just make the 4-point, but as you say, 9 and 1* would also be a contender.

Cube action after each play would be interesting, and might also depend on whether the Jacoby rule applies or not - probably double and take in all cases (all three plays, and whether Jacoby is in effect or not).
