Advanced Backgammon, 8A and 8B

Ahead in the race with just one checker back, Blue must at least consider the Pottle. Running out to the 15pt leaves 24 shots. Fully a third of the time Blue might complete his escape with a lead in his pocket. Dutifully, therefore, I took a look. But I could not convince myself! The moves seems premature.

That leaves 13/8 for the 5, and a choice of S = 24/20 or D = 13/9 for the 4.

I’ll guess Robertie recommends D in 8A and S in 8B. I wonder if S isn’t better in both positions. Sitting back on the 24pt and allowing White to bring down wood unchallenged rubs me wrong.
