Problem is that if it's optional, it's not a close decision and shouldn't count... Not until it actually gets close to marketloss should it count.

There's a lot of similar decisions that counts which shouldn't. In a bear-off where you have the option of taking off two checkers from your two high-points, but instead can make a skip-play. Say one checker on the 4th and 5th point, and you roll 45. Cudos to you for taking off two.
