Why 24/22 is better than 23/21 here? Several reasons: 1) 3s and 5s are somewhat duped since they PoH and also allow the opponent to play to the mid or 11-point. 4s and 2s PoH after 23/21 but 4s don't also escape off the 16-point. 2) More indirect shots if oppt leaves a blot on his 11-point. 3) If you get pointed on with 53, you get more return hits on the oppt's 8-point and more ways to make an advanced anchor than if you had played 23/21 and the oppt PoH with a 42. 4) More ways to make the 22-point (or a better anchor) after 24/22 than to make the 21-point (or better) after 23/21 (even though the 21-point anchor is better than the 22). 5) Pretty sure this is the DMP play and it probably wins more net gammons than 23/21 as well.

Probably other reasons as well but that's all I can think of.
