Blue will be down by nine pips in the race after this play so reducing contact by playing off the 18 doesn't sound right.

Playing off the 3 point gives the best blockade, but is not so good for the bearoff. Playing off the six makes it easier for white to escape (assuming we get a shot) but makes the bearoff play better.

I'll play off the 6. 6/4(2)
